Hypermarket fuel stations continue to offer the lowest prices on the Portuguese market, allowing consumers to savings of more than 12 cents per liter compared to the values practiced by the big oil companies. The conclusion is from the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE), which points to a gradual increase in this difference in recent years.
According to the average prices observed this Tuesday, a liter of diesel at oil company stations was sold for R$2,056, while in hypermarkets it cost, on average, R$1,929. For regular gasoline, prices were R$2.045 per liter in oil companies and R$1.920 in hypermarkets. The differences represent savings in 12.7 cents per liter for diesel and 12.5 cents for gasoline.

ERSE emphasizes that these differences are not just the result of recent fluctuations in international energy markets or the worsening of geopolitical tensions, particularly related to the conflict between Iran and the United States. “From 2023hypermarkets and low-cost stations have consistently presented average prices lower than those of branded oil companies”, says the regulatory entity in analyzing the evolution of fuel prices.
Historical data shows that the price differential has progressively increased. In the case of simple 95 gasoline, the average difference between hypermarkets and oil companies was around 10.2 cents per liter in 2023. In 2025, this value rose to 12.7 cents and reached 13.4 cents accumulated from 2026 until April.
In common diesel, the evolution was similar. The average difference in relation to oil companies went from 11.9 cents per liter in 2023 to 12.9 cents in 2025, reaching 14.1 cents in the first months of 2026.
