Mercadona will open, for the first time, a store in the municipality of Faro and has already started the recruitment process for this new unit, which is scheduled to open in November. The information was released this week and is part of the Spanish flag’s expansion plan in Portugal, where the network continues to increase its presence.
According to the website, reinforcing the company’s commitment to the Algarve, one of the regions where consumption tends to grow significantly throughout the year.
The new commercial area will have a sales area of around 1,900 square meters and will integrate several of the brand’s usual services. Among them are a butcher’s shop, fish shop, delicatessen, pastry shop and bakery, as well as fruit and vegetable sections, perfumery, home care, pet products and a wine cellar. The store will also have a Ready to Eat space, on a self-service basis, with dishes prepared for consumption on the spot or to take away.
Ongoing recruitment for various schedules
Opening the store involves hiring new workers to fill all available positions. The company is looking for supermarket operators for different work arrangements, with different hours and pay levels.
For 20-hour working weeks, spread over five days with fixed shifts, Mercadona indicates a starting gross annual salary of R$7,646, with progression up to R$10,457. To the values, food allowance, Sundays and holidays are added.
There are also vacancies for 15-hour weekly contracts, exclusively on Saturdays and Sundays. In these cases, the remuneration starts at 5,734 euros gross per year and can reach 7,843 euros, also with the right to additional allowances.
In addition to the roles of supermarket operator, the group also has vacancies open for maintenance assistants, working 40 hours a week. The indicated annual gross salary starts at 15,293 euros and can increase up to 20,915 euros, depending on internal progression.
Effective contract, training and benefits
All advertised positions include a permanent contract from the first day. Mercadona also guarantees paid initial training, with all expenses covered by the company, including food, transport and accommodation during the training period.
In addition to contractual stability, the network highlights other benefits associated with the role. Workers have access to known schedules a month in advance, regular salary progression and an annual performance bonus. This award corresponds to an extra salary after the first complete calendar year and can reach two additional salaries after four years of service.
The company also recalls that it now grants up to 29 days of vacation per year, including an additional week in relation to the legal minimum, a measure announced at the end of last year.
