The senator (-MG) stated this to the president of , Edinho Silva, this year. According to people close to him, the parliamentarian said he should leave politics to dedicate himself to law and cited personal, health and family issues to make the decision.
The statement was given to Edinho during a conversation this Tuesday (12) at Pacheco’s house, in which the PT member insisted that the parliamentarian enter the dispute for command of the state. Despite the refusal, the PT leadership is treating the case as a first conversation and has not given up on having the senator in the race for Minas.
The PT and the president (PT) want Pacheco as a candidate to ensure a strong platform in MG. At this Tuesday’s meeting, Edinho suggested that Pacheco talk to Lula before making a final decision regarding his political destiny.
The senator responded that he was not opposed to a conversation with the President of the Republic, but reiterated that he would not be interested in the dispute, even suggesting other names that could replace him.
Pacheco cited Josué Alencar (PSB), son of former vice-president José de Alencar, and Jarbas Soares, former attorney general of MG as options to be candidates in Minas. He also stated that he hopes that the former mayor of Contagem Marília Campos (PT) will be elected senator, in the vacancy that will be left by him.
The PT president stated that he will continue conversations with Pacheco. “We’re going to continue talking a little longer. We have to respect his position. He’s going to talk to more people and wants to listen to other people, leaders. I’m still going to talk to PT de Minas”, said Edinho, upon arriving at the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) for the inauguration of minister Kassio Nunes Marques as president of the court.
Lula insists on Pacheco as a candidate in Minas, despite suspecting that the senator voted against the appointment of minister Jorge Messias (Attorney General of the Union) to the STF (Supreme Federal Court). According to the senator’s report to people close to him, this topic permeated the conversation with Edinho this Tuesday.
