The Environmentalist Parliamentary Front went public to repudiate the space that the Chamber of Deputies has given to the Danish Bjorn Lomborg this week. The political scientist sparked controversy by saying that current environmental concerns are exaggerated.
He is taking part in a conference this Wednesday (13) and will also give an intensive two-day course to civil servants on “Cost-benefit analysis for designing high-impact public policies”.
For the Front, offering institutional support to a dangerous discourse without a technical contradiction only institutionally legitimizes a narrative refuted by science.
“This scenario becomes particularly sensitive given the recurring pressure in the National Congress for flexibility in environmental protection”, he said in a note.
Lomborg takes a more skeptical approach. He says, for example, that combating global warming should not be the only or main global priority. Critics say he underestimates climate risks.
The Environmentalist Front’s position states that the problem is not accepting divergent positions, but giving support to someone who does not have the trust of world experts.
