Text establishes spending of R$2.9 billion per month on measures to reduce fuel prices

The president’s government (PT) announced, this Wednesday (May 13, 2026), a measure to contain the rise in fuel prices caused by the war in Iran. The measures include subsidies for gasoline and diesel and are expected to cost R$2.9 billion per month to tax payers.

For gasoline, the government works with a subsidy of between R$0.40 and R$0.45 per liter, with an estimated fiscal impact of between R$1 billion and R$1.2 billion per month. For diesel, the estimated monthly cost is R$1.7 billion. Read (PDF – 480 kB).
