Russian missiles and drones hit Kyiv and other cities. They report explosions and fires

The Ukrainian capital is resisting an intense attack in the early hours of Thursday morning. AFP informs about it, while the mayor of Kyiv announced that the city is being destroyed by Russian strikes. “The enemy is attacking Kyiv with the help of drones and ballistic missiles,” Vitaliy Klitschko wrote on the Telegram network, adding that the capital is “under strong enemy attack,” TASR reports.

The RBK-Ukraine agency confirmed that Russia launched a massive attack with drones and missiles on the Ukrainian capital. She referred to the head of the capital’s military administration, Tymur Tkačenko.

Missile warning

“A state of alert has been declared in Kyiv due to the threat of ballistic missile use. Take care of your safety. Go to shelters immediately and stay there until the alarm ends,” a military report said less than an hour after midnight local time.

The Ukrainian air force said Russian missiles were aimed at the cities of Kyiv, Kremenchuk, Yahotyn and Cherkasy, while groups of drones were seen flying west over the Sumy region. During the attack, explosions and air defense activity were reported in and around the capital, Kyiv Post reported.

Damage in various areas

As he added, the first reports spoke of damage in Kyiv’s Dnipro district, where debris from a downed drone caused a fire on the roof of a five-story residential building. The wreckage of the downed drone also fell on the road in another district.

More detailed information about material damage or potential victims is not yet known. In addition to Kyiv, explosions were also heard in the cities of Cherkasy and Kremenchuk.

Ongoing attacks

The night rocket attack followed one of the biggest drone strikes since the start of the invasion, which was also resisted by the Transcarpathian region bordering Slovakia during the day on Wednesday. In addition to it, almost 900 drones also targeted Kyiv, Rivnianska, Volynska, Odeska, Khmeľnycká, Ľvovská and other areas. According to reports, at least six people were killed and dozens injured, including children.
