Trump leaves Beijing without announcing major trade deals

US President concludes his visit to China with lunch with Chinese President Xi Jinping

The president of the United States, (Republican Party), ended his trip to China this Friday (May 15, 2026) without announcing major trade agreements. Until the moment he embarked back to the USA, the Republican only disclosed the information for Chinese airline tenders.

In his last appointment in Beijing – a visit and lunch accompanied by the Chinese president, (Communist Party of China), at his official residence –, Trump declared that the countries “amazing deals”but did not give details.

Apart from Boeing, no company linked to the businessmen who accompanied Trump’s trip had immediate success in China. The delegation was mainly made up of technology executives, such as Tesla, Nvidia and Apple.

Despite not announcing agreements in China, there were hints that the commercial relationship could move forward in the future. On Thursday (May 14), Xi said that China is for foreign companies and that North American companies can benefit. Trump, in turn, declared that China is willing to “invest billions” in US technology companies.

In the geopolitical field, there has also been little progress. Xi pressured Trump for the US to distance itself from Taiwan, but did not receive a convincing response from the American. On the contrary, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in an interview that .

Regarding the crisis in the Middle East, there was no significant achievement. Trump said that the 2 countries share similar views on the outcome of the war with Iran. According to the White House, both agree that the conflict must end quickly, the Strait of Hormuz must be reopened and that Iran . Despite this, Xi has not confirmed that he agrees to limit Iran’s nuclear capacity.
