Trump says Xi Jinping called the US a nation in decline in the Biden era

Presidents met for 2h30 in the Great Hall of the People; China announced the purchase of 200 Boeing planes on the first day of the summit

The President of the United States, (Republican Party), this Thursday (May 14, 2026), that the Chinese president (PCCh) referred to the USA as a nation in decline in reference to the period of the (Democratic Party).

Trump explained that Xi’s reference to the US decline was specifically about the damage during the Biden administration and that the Chinese leader was “100% right”.

“Our country [EUA] suffered immensely from open borders, high taxes, transgender rights, men in women’s sports, diversity, equity and inclusion, disastrous trade deals, rampant crime and much more.”declared Trump on his official profile on the Truth Social network.

The statement comes in the context of comments on the bilateral relationship between the United States and China. Trump stated that Xi congratulated him on the results achieved during his administration and characterizes his administration as a phase of rise for the country.

Regarding his own administration, Trump mentioned that he completed 16 months of government. He cited stock markets and 401(k) retirement plans at record levels, military victory, relations with Venezuela, military action against Iran and $18 trillion in investments in the United States.

Trump also mentioned what he described as the best job market in American history, with more people working in the country than ever before, and cited the end of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policies.

The president declared that the United States is currently the most influential nation in the world and expressed expectations that the relationship with China will be stronger and better than ever.

CHINA-US SUMMIT

As began at the Great Hall of the People, in Beijing, this Thursday (May 14). The meeting between the presidents lasted around 2h30 and should last for 2 days.

The first day of talks was marked by the announcement of the purchase of 200 Boeing planes by China, a number below the expected 600 aircraft. Announcements of commercial partnerships were scheduled for the 2nd and final day of the summit. Trump and Xi are expected to meet again on Friday (May 15), at 11:30 am, Beijing time (0:30 am Brasília time).

Announcements are expected in the following sectors:

  • rare earths for US technology companies;
  • commitments to purchase U.S. agricultural products;
  • commitment to resume purchasing US oil.
