Second in global command of Islamic State killed in Africa, says Trump

United States President Donald Trump said this Saturday (16) that Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, second in command of the Islamic State globally, was eliminated in an operation conducted by American and Nigerian forces.

“Tonight, under my orders, the brave American forces and the Nigerian Armed Forces perfectly executed a meticulously planned and extremely complex mission to eliminate the world’s most active terrorist from the battlefield,” the US president said on social media.

The mission was described as “meticulously planned and extremely complex”. Trump thanked the Nigerian government for its partnership in the operation and said that with the elimination of Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, the Islamic State’s global action has been considerably weakened.

“Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, second in command of ISIS globally, thought he could hide in Africa, but little did he know that we had sources keeping us informed about his activities. He will no longer terrorize the people of Africa nor help plan operations against Americans,” added the President of the United States in the post.

Nigeria had already been the target of criticism from Trump, who claimed that Christians were being persecuted in the country, which the African nation’s government denies.

The United States attacked what it claimed to be, following Trump’s accusations.
