Governor questions changes and warns that changes could reduce the income of workers in São Paulo
The governor of São Paulo, (Republicans)criticized this Monday (May 18, 2026) the proposals related to the reduction of working hours and stated that the debate on the 6 X 1 scale “you can’t cheat the worker”. The statement was made during a speech at the opening of the event, held in the capital of São Paulo.
According to Tarcísio, discussions about changes to the journey need to consider impacts on companies, income and informality.
“Of course, everyone wants workers to be able to spend more time at home, to have a smaller schedule and to be with their loved ones, but we cannot deceive the worker”, he stated.
The governor also said that worker and employer “work together” and criticized proposals that, according to him, could reduce the population’s purchasing power.
“There is no point in thinking that suddenly that worker will have a reduced working day, but will lose their purchasing power”, these.
During his speech, Tarcísio stated that the issue needs to be addressed “very seriously” and warned of risks of increased informality and unemployment. “This debate has to be taken very seriously, not in a hasty way”, these.
According to him, changes in working hours can lead workers to seek extra income to compensate for salary losses.
“You will waste your free time doing odd jobs to ensure a minimum income”, he stated.
The governor also stated that there is concern in the supermarket sector about possible economic impacts of the proposals under discussion. “There is enormous concern in the sector”, these.
Tarcísio also defended policies for job creation, professional qualification and fiscal responsibility during his speech to businesspeople and retail representatives.
The event was attended by the vice-president (PSB) and the mayor of São Paulo, (MDB).
