Even on vacation, the minister meets the president at events in the state; AGU is tipped to take over Ministry of Justice
The Union’s attorney general, Jorge Messias, accompanies the president (PT) on agendas in São Paulo this Tuesday (May 19, 2026). Messiah since May 13th, after being to fill the open position on the Federal Supreme Court.
Lula and Messias attended 2 events in the State: the opening of Enic (International Meeting of the Construction Industry) and the launch of –a line of credit for app drivers.
The minister, despite having shown interest in remaining at the Federal Attorney General’s Office, is tipped to take over the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, commanded by Wellington César Lima e Silva.
New appointment of Messias to the STF
Another path that has been considered for Messiah is a . Lula has told allies that the defeat in the Senate was not due to technical or personal reasons against the minister: the PT member assesses that there was an articulation by the president of the Upper House, (União Brasil-AP), to confront the government.
Despite the articulation, the internal regulations of the Senate that the name of the Union’s attorney general be analyzed again. Lula would have to win the 2026 election and re-present the name of Messiah. Here’s the the standard (PDF – 126 kB).
The expectation is that Lula and Messias will talk after the minister’s leave, which ends on May 25th.
