Lawyer Eugênio Aragão reported this Tuesday (19) that he left the defense of the former president of the Banco Regional de Brasília (BRB) Paulo Henrique Costa, one of those investigated in the Banco Master case. The departure occurs at a time when Costa is negotiating the signing of a plea bargain agreement with investigators from the Federal Police (PF) and the Attorney General’s Office (PGR). He is imprisoned in the Papuda prison, in Brasília.

In a press release, Aragão declared that “it only participates in legal initiatives guided by absolute seriousness, professional trust and responsibility”. The lawyer did not inform the specific fact that led him to leave the defense of the former president.

“Eventual award-winning collaboration would only be considered in the presence of consistent and unequivocal evidence, always with respect to legality, institutions and the reputation of the people involved,” he stated.. On April 16, Paulo Henrique Costa was arrested during the fourth phase of Operation Compliance Zerofrom the PF, which investigates fraud at Banco Master and the attempted purchase of the financial institution by BRB, a public bank linked to the government of the Federal District.

According to investigations, Costa would have arranged with banker Daniel Vorcaro to receive R$146.5 million in bribes. The value would be passed on through real estate. He denies the accusations.
