Court finds Airbus and Air France guilty of Rio-Paris plane crash in 2009

PARIS, May 21 (Reuters) – A Paris appeals court found Airbus and Air France guilty of corporate manslaughter in the 2009 Rio-Paris plane crash that killed 228 passengers and crew in France’s worst air disaster, ordering them both to pay the maximum fine of 225,000 euros each.

The verdict is the latest milestone in a 17-year legal marathon involving two of France’s most iconic companies and relatives of the victims, most of whom are French, Brazilian and German. French lawyers predict new appeals to the country’s highest court.
