The president of the Senate, , must block this Thursday (21), once again, the opening of a mixed CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) to investigate . The assessment is shared by parliamentarians from the left, right and center.
Currently, there are two requests to open mixed CPIs with the necessary signatures. The regulations provide that the opening of this type of commission will be automatic in the next joint session of Congress after the request reaches the support of 27 senators and 171 deputies.
As there is a call for this Thursday to analyze President Lula’s (PT) vetoes on the LDO (Budget Guidelines Law) of 2026, Alcolumbre should read one of the requests for opening the CPI at the beginning of the meeting. But the expectation is that he will again ignore the existence of the requests.
The government base and the opposition each managed to file their request for a mixed CPI. Leaders from both sides must demand Alcolumbre in plenary for the opening. Behind the scenes, parliamentarians admit to playing the game, as it would not be in anyone’s interest to install the collegiate body.
On the government’s side, there is fear with the maxim that “a CPI knows how it begins, but not how it ends”. Among Planalto’s opponents, the fear is due to the recent revelation, owner of the Master.
“The Banco Master scandal has the fingerprints of Bolsonarism from beginning to end. […] We defend the CPI to investigate and reach everyone involved”, stated the government leader in Congress, Randolfe Rodrigues (PT-AP), after the audio of Flávio Bolsonaro asking Vorcaro for money was revealed, on the 13th.
The pre-campaign precisely called for the opening of a mixed CPI to reverse the deterioration of audio with Vorcaro. The idea is to show distance from the banker and give the impression that Flávio is in favor of investigations that reveal who helped Banco Master in the fraud.
In the last session of Congress, held at the end of April, the opposition reached an agreement with Alcolumbre. The senator called for overturning the veto on the dosimetry project, which benefits former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and others convicted of the coup plot with reduced sentences. In return, Bolsonaro supporters did not demand the opening of the mixed CPI.
Now, the opposition says it will change its stance and should demand Alcolumbre in plenary. The government too. Both sides believe that Alcolumbre will “kill himself in the chest” and ignore the requests, dealing alone with public exhaustion, as it would also not be in the senator’s interest to open the collegiate.
The parliamentarian is the political godfather of Jocildo Silva Lemos, who presided over Amprev (Amapá Previdência). He was the target of a PF (Federal Police) operation investigating suspicious contributions of R$400 million to Banco Master.
Part of the opposition still remembers a “trauma”. At the beginning of the Lula government, in 2023, the group managed to open a mixed CPI on the January 8 attacks. Planalto, which was initially against it, decided to support and won a majority in the collegiate, which ultimately ended up targeting the Bolsonarists more.
