“I hope to see them again”: Man who saved French children gets emotional during interview

Alexandre and Carla Quintas, the couple who took in the two French brothers found abandoned next to a road in Alcácer do Sal, revealed that they had created a “strong bond” with the children during the hours they were at the family bakery.

In an interview with CMTV, Alexandre recalled the moment he found the minors and called his wife: “I found two French boys abandoned on the side of the road.”

Carla said that, when she arrived at the bakery, the children were calmer. “The oldest was delighted to see my husband work”, she reported.

The couple further explained that they enlisted the help of a friend of their son, who spoke French, to be able to communicate with the brothers and help the National Republican Guard understand what had happened. It was during this conversation that the children reported being blindfolded and left in the middle of the bush to look for a toy.

The children remained in the bakery between 7pm and midnight. According to Alexandre and Carla, there were moments when the two brothers were able to play and temporarily forget the trauma they experienced.

Visibly moved, Alexandre confessed to having developed a strong bond with the older boy and admitted that he would like to see them again. “I hope they are welcomed by someone who gives them love,” he said.

The case continues to be monitored by the authorities and the Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People.
