The Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves

The now resigned deputy secretary general of the Ministry of Internal Administration mentions “serious irregularities” in the management of SIRESP during the presidency of Paulo Viegas Nunes. According to MAI, António Pombeiro had previously resigned.

The deputy secretary general of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Antonio Pombeiroresigned from his position on Friday, the ministry confirmed to Lusa today, adding that this was his second order resignation submitted within one month.

In response to Lusa, minister Luís Neves’ office explained that António Pombeiro he had already resigned on April 28 and did it again a month later, in Friday, is May 22nd.

António Pombeiro “requested his dismissal on April 28th, before the election of the General Viegas Nunes for president of SIRESP, and again last Friday, May 22nd, the latter being oil”, explained MAI.

About reasons that led to Antonio Pombeiro’s dismissalthe MAI considered that “it is up to the deputy secretary general himself, now resigning, to comment on them, and it is not up to the Ministry of Internal Administration to list or comment on them”.

The new person responsible for the portfolio “will be announced in due course,” he added.

The news was reported by , with this channel citing the ’email’ that António Pombeiro sent regarding the request for his dismissal.

According to the television station, the now resigned deputy secretary general of MAI mentioned “serious irregularities” in the management of SIRESP during the presidency of Army General Paulo Viegas Nunes.

In his resignation letter, to which he had access, Pombeiro documents situations that he considers to constitute “ethically reprehensible behavior and legally questionable” at SIRESP under the direction of Viegas Nunes.

One of the complaints refers to an alleged “irregular hiring” from a technical consultancy company that the complainant says belongs to an engineer “allegedly compadre” by Viegas Nunes.

Pombeiro says he has “concrete evidence, emails, internal notesrequests, proposals and excerpts from the IGF report that confirm a systematic pattern of behaviors.”

Antonio Pombeiro’s resignation happened on Fridayon the day that Paulo Viegas Nunes returned to the leadership of SIRESP, although MAI, in the response sent to Lusa today, mentioned that the first resignation request took place before the appointment of Paulo Viegas Nunes.

“Paulo Viegas Nunes returns to leadership of SIRESP SA, after having already performed these functions between 2022 and 2024, now starting a new mandate in a strategic phase of modernization and strengthening of the national emergency and security communications network”, wrote the MAI, in a statement, on Friday.
