Trump demands that several Muslim countries normalize relations with Israel as a condition of the Iran deal

To every statement by the American president Donald Trumpthe agreement with Iran walks away. This time the Republican president has demanded that several Muslim countries normalize relations with Israel and join the Abraham Accords as part of a pact with Iran. “It will be a great agreement for everyone or there will be no agreement at all“Back on the front lines and firing, but bigger and stronger than ever, and no one wants that!” he said in a post on his Truth Social network. “After all the work done by the United States to try to solve this complex problem, it should be mandatory for all of these countries, at a minimum, to simultaneously sign the Abraham Accords,” he added.

These countries are Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Pakistan and Türkiye. Also includes United Arab Emirates and Bahrainwho already signed the Abraham Accords, and Egypt and Jordan that normalized relations with Israel in the 1970s. “One or two may have a reason not to do so, and that will be accepted, but the majority should be ready, willing and able to make this deal with Iran a much more historic event than it would be otherwise,” Trump demanded, while celebrating that the agreements have provided “a financial, economic and social boomeven during this time of conflict and war, without the current members even suggesting leaving or even taking a hiatus.”

Gesture to Israel

With this announcement, the American president makes a gesture of goodwill to allay Israeli concerns. In the Mediterranean country, the negotiations with Iran and the possible pact that arises from them, which could force them to stop their aggression on Lebanonare seen as detrimental to their interests. Senior Israeli defense officials have confirmed to the outlet Haaretz their frustration, since they believe that, despite Israel’s full participation in the war against Iran, the White House no longer took their interests sufficiently into account. Sources from the Israeli Army have conveyed the discomfort of the defense establishment that feels that their opinions were little taken into account by US officials, both regarding Iran and Lebanon.

Trump seeks, in some way, to calm the concerns of Israelis and the criticism coming from Washington. The senator Lindsey Grahamfrom South Carolina, a strong supporter of war against Iran, has denounced that the terms of the agreement would allow the survival of the Iranian regime and has lamented that a pact that leaves Iran in a strong position in the region would lead to a “nightmare for Israel.” The American president has urged Qatar and Saudi Arabia to be the first to sign the Agreements. “Everyone else should do the same; if they don’t, they should not be part of this agreement, as it shows bad intentions,” he concluded, before encouraging Iran to also join and, in this way, normalize relations with its historical enemy and which it does not recognize as a State.
