Kassio creates commission to discuss rules for the use of AI – 05/26/2026 – Brasília Hoje

The president of the (Superior Electoral Court), minister, created on Monday (25) a commission with the TREs (Regional Electoral Courts) to debate the rules for using na.

The group will be responsible, for example, for developing a national catalog of AI solutions and overseeing partnerships with universities specializing in digital crime expertise.

According to the court, the commission will have an initial 90 days to complete its activities. Kassio, however, indicated that the deadline could be extended to include discussions with companies and parties.

The measure was announced during Kassio’s meeting with the presidents of 25 TREs, at the court’s headquarters, in Brasília. Only the heads of the courts in Amazonas and Sergipe were not present. The vice-president of the TSE, , also participated.

In addition to this initiative, Kassio Nunes Marques advised TREs to create their own unit focused on information security within one month.

He also announced that a call will be made to the national party directories to formalize an agreement to comply with electoral standards. Digital platforms must also participate in a meeting to discuss a compliance plan with TSE rules.

“We will have a sequence of meetings. After the first, with the presidents of the TREs, meetings will be held with the presidents of the parties and the platforms”, said the minister.

“Our objective here is to listen, learn and commit to shared management, knowing that we will have a challenging year ahead. The success of this work is extremely important for the Electoral Court and for the country, as it is what the Brazilian population expects from us”, he added.

Kassio took office as president of the TSE on May 12th. In his speech, he cited misinformation, artificial intelligence and the use of social networks.

The minister said that all the contributions made were echoed in the court and that the “future will not be designed by machines”. He also stated that “patience is needed”, but also defended actions so that the public debate is not “hijacked” and so that democracy is protected.

In early March, the court within 72 hours before and 24 hours after each round of voting in 2026, as part of the resolutions that will govern this year’s elections. The determination applies to new synthetic content.

The court also defined that any material manipulated for electoral propaganda must indicate that the content was manufactured and through what technology.
