Chinese minister says country will support Cuba and oppose “power politics and bullying”

China strongly opposed American foreign policy and promised full political and economic support to Cuba. At the negotiations in New York, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang I agreed with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodríguez Parrillo on aid for the Caribbean island, which is currently paralyzed by nationwide power outages.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi pledged to support Havana and oppose “power politics and bullying” during talks with Cuban ministerial counterpart Bruno Rodríguez Parrillo in New York on Wednesday. The Caribbean island is facing an American blockade, which is causing a shortage of energy raw materials and power outages. TASR informs about it according to the AFP agency.

  • Chinese Minister Wang I promised political and economic support to Cuba in New York.
  • Beijing openly opposes the power politics and bullying of the United States.
  • The economic crisis in Cuba deepened after the American oil embargo against Havana.
  • Washington accused Raúl Castro of shooting down two American civilian planes in 1996.
  • China has called on the United States to stop constantly threatening Cuba with military force.

China on the side of Cuba

“China will continue to uphold justice and advocate for Cuba, support the just cause of the Cuban people, and contribute to the development of the Cuban economy and the improvement of the living conditions of its people,” Wang said. “It is essential to consistently respect the sovereignty and independence of all states and oppose all forms of power politics and bullying,” he added, clearly referring to the United States.

Cuba’s deep economic crisis worsened earlier this year after the US ousted Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and imposed an oil embargo on Havana. Venezuela supplied roughly half of Cuba’s oil. Since then, only the Russian tanker Anatoly Kolodkin has sailed to Havana.

Tlak from the USA

Washington got tougher on Cuba last week when it accused former Cuban President Raúl Castro of shooting down two US civilian planes in 1996. He fueled fears that the US was looking for an excuse to topple the government in Havana. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned Cuba a day after the lawsuit was announced that the US is determined to change the communist system on the island.

In response to the lawsuit against Castro, China’s Foreign Ministry called on the US to stop threatening to use force at every opportunity.
