Deliberation on the proposal to reduce working hours takes place this Tuesday (27)
Federal deputy Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP) said in an interview with Jornal Jovem Pan this Wednesday (27) that the Federal Senate is still a “big unknown” if the vote to end the 6×1 scale and the reduction of working hours is approved by the Chamber of Deputies. Voting takes place on Wednesday night at the house.
According to Erika, it will be necessary to use the same strategy that was used in the Chamber for the Senate as well. “We will have to show that it is an important matter, that it has popular appeal and that society is paying close attention to this vote,” he declared.
For the deputy, the best way to certify the text of the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) is to use popular expectations to achieve the best for workers in the Senate as well. “There is huge anxiety on the part of society with this vote. If approved in the Chamber, this anxiety tends to be tripled and this tripling should be the path of conviction so that we can unlock the matter in the house”explained Erika.
After Tuesday’s vote in the Chamber, the deputy stated that she will seek a meeting with the president of the Federal Senate, senator Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP)to “feel the temperature”. “In the Senate, in fact, we have had this concern, which is why, after passing the vote in the Chamber of Deputies, we will ask for an agenda with President Davi Alcolumbre to feel the temperature”.
Erika also added that it is necessary to understand how the members of the Senate will behave, as we do not know the “maneuvers” that will be carried out there.
Finally, the parliamentarian said that the expectation is that the vote in the Chamber will take place smoothly and with broad approval of the end of the 6×1 scale. “Our expectation is that we will be able to vote with a very favorable score”, he concluded.
If deputies vote in favor of ending the 6×1 scale and reducing working hours, the PEC continues to be deliberated in the Federal Senate.
PEC vote in the Chamber
The special committee of the Chamber of Deputies has already approved this Wednesday the PEC end of scale 6×1. Voting now takes place in the Plenary of the Lower House (the Chamber made up of 513 deputies). The text proposes the reduction of the maximum working day from 44 hours to 40 hours per week without salary reduction and increases the weekly day off to two daysnot necessarily consecutive.
“The transition to a 40-hour week, combined with the guarantee of two days of paid weekly rest and the maintenance of salaries, is a viable, urgent and necessary measure. It rescues the constitutional promise of valuing work and human dignity”, argued the rapporteur, the federal deputy Leo Prates (Republicans-BA).
On Monday (25), the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), reported that the Palácio do Planalto and the Casa Baixa . During this period, the working day drops from 44 hours to 42 hours. One year later, the workload is reduced to 40 hours.
