Technological evolution in the Ukrainian war is happening extremely quickly: satellite communications, autonomous systems, combat robots and drone motherships are being used. At the same time, concepts are used, some of which are almost two hundred years old. The latest development from Ukraine – a combination of high-tech drones and high-altitude balloons – shows how high technology and methods that were long thought to be outdated come together. At the same time, the saturation of the airspace is forcing troops on the ground to revive tactics from the First World War.
