Text establishes technical assistance, marketing support and participation in fairs for professionals in the sector
The president (PT) sanctioned, this Thursday (May 28, 2026), the law that creates the National Day of Artisans and Craftsmen and regulates the profession. The date was set at March 19th.
The signing took place at Palácio do Planalto, in a closed ceremony alongside the minister of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations, José Guimarães (PT-CE), the governor of Ceará, Elmano de Freitas (PT), and senator Camilo Santana (PT).
The text, authored by Guimarães and former deputy Professor Rosa Neide (PT-MT), establishes that federal, state and municipal governments will be able to regulate and promote actions to strengthen the work of artisans. The measurements:
- technical assistance for the qualification of artisans;
- incentives for product marketing;
- campaigns to promote women’s crafts;
- support for participation in fairs, exhibitions and other publicity spaces.
The text lists as examples of trades carried out by women artisans: lacemaker, knitter, tapestry maker, mazemaker, embroiderer, ceramist, braider, spinner, seamstress, weaver, dollmaker, leatherworker, carver and crocheter.
There is the possibility of recognizing other crafts for their cultural, social and economic relevance and for the preservation of traditions and popular knowledge.
There is also the creation of the National Artisan and Craftsman Card, which will be valid for 3 years. The term is renewable as long as there is proof of social contributions established in the regulations.
