The is the first country to ensure the disbursement of money from the new European financial tool for defense (Security Action for Europe), since according to what was announced it received 6.6 billion euros (6,560,115,120.75 euros). This move underlines its role as the largest beneficiary of the program, but also the special emphasis placed on Eastern Europe.
The amount corresponds to 15% of the total approved allocation for the country, which reaches €43.7 billion, making Poland the largest recipient of funds under SAFE.
What is the purpose of the release of funds?
According to the European Commission, the pre-financing aims to accelerate critical defense investments, strengthen the resilience of member states and modernize military capabilities, based on common European objectives.
SAFE is designed to enable rapid and coordinated action in the field of defence, to enhance the interoperability of European armed forces and to support the development of the European defense industry.
The executive vice-president of the Commission, responsible for Technological Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, Henna Virkunen, emphasized that “Europe must be ready for any eventuality and able to act under any conditions”, characterizing SAFE as “an essential tool for strengthening the continent’s military capabilities”.
For his part, Defense and Space Commissioner Andrews Coubilius spoke of “a clear step forward for collective security”, noting that the funding will accelerate investment and enhance operational readiness through closer European cooperation.
