Romania and France have summoned Russian ambassadors after a Russian drone struck a residential building in the city of Galati, injuring two people.
In response to Friday’s incident, when a Russian drone hit a residential building in the city of Galati and injured two people, Romania summoned the Russian ambassador. The French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, announced the same move. TASR informs about it according to the reports of the Reuters and AFP agencies.
The Romanian Department of Diplomacy described the situation as “extremely serious” and confirmed the summons of the Russian ambassador.
Diplomatic implications
“We will officially inform him of the consequences that this irresponsibility on the part of the Russian Federation will have on the diplomatic relations between our countries, as well as further steps at the European level regarding the sanctions packages,” Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Toiu wrote on the X platform.
The head of French diplomacy, Barrot, called the incident irresponsible in an interview with the France Inter radio station and condemned Russia’s actions. He emphasized that the target of the attack was “a country of the European Union and a member state of NATO”.
Condemnation of the attack
A Russian drone penetrated Romanian airspace early Friday morning and hit a residential building, causing a fire that was extinguished. The situation was also condemned by the North Atlantic Alliance, the President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen and Moldova, which lies between Ukraine and Romania.
