Fuel prices drop 12 cents from Monday

Fuel prices in Portugal will fall by 12 cents, both for simple 95 gasoline and diesel, according to Anarec forecasts. Final values may vary depending on the part of the country and the gas station.

The month of June will begin with a significant drop in the price of gasoline and diesel, following the sharp drop in the price of oil, which on Thursday was at US$94 per barrel of Brent.

Based on current values from the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG), and taking into account forecasts of increases with market closing values on Thursday, the average price of Gasoline simple 95 should be located in the 1,904 euros per liter from Monday, while the diesel simple would achieve the 1,837 euros per liter.

These values, which point to an average drop of 12 cents, in both regular 95 gasoline and diesel, may vary depending on the area of the country and the gas station, and may be slightly altered. The Government will reduce the discount no ISP at 1.9 cents per liter for diesel and 1.8 cents for gasoline, according to an ordinance published in Diário da República.

“Faced with the prospect that next week there will be a drop in the prices of road diesel and unleaded gasoline, the Government decided to adjust the extraordinary and temporary discount on the ISP in force applicable to road diesel and unleaded gasoline”, the document reads.

Thus, “the discounts resulting from the application of this temporary and extraordinary mechanism in the ISP rate applicable, on the continent, to road diesel and unleaded gasoline are of 43.80 euros and 42.18 euros per 1000 litersrespectively”, he highlighted.

According to the ordinance, “in view of the extraordinary increase in fuel prices resulting from the impact of the geopolitical and military crisis in the Middle East on the prices of oil and its derivatives” and in the face of uncertainty, “with consequent social and economic impact on families and companies, it was decided to carry out a discount temporary and extraordinary of the ISP”, when the price increase exceeds, in relation to the week of March 2nd to 6th, a value of 10 cents.

It corresponds to “the return of additional VAT tax revenue, through a temporary reduction in the ISP unit rates applicable, on the continent, to unleaded gasoline and road diesel”, he recalled.
