João Fonseca already knows who his opponent will be in the round of 16 at Roland Garros. After defeating Novak Djokovic by 3 sets to 2 this Friday (29), Brazilian will face Norwegian Casper Ruud, number 16 in the world, following the Grand Slam. The duel between the tennis players will be played next Sunday, the 31st, with no set time yet. This will be the first time they face each other.

Hours after the Brazilian’s victory against the Serbian, Casper Ruud and American Tommy Paul played another exciting match on clay in Paris. In a game of five sets, the Norwegian beat his opponent by 3 sets to 2, partials of 4/6, 6/7 (4/7), 6/4, 7/6 (7/4) and 7/5, and guaranteed a place in the round of 16.

One of the top seeds in the Grand Slam, Fonseca debuted in the first round with a comfortable victory over Frenchman Luka Pavlovic by 3 sets to 0. In the second round, he defeated Croatian Dino Prizmic by 3 sets to 2, in a great upset. He then beat the legend Novak Djokovic also by 3 sets to 2, after losing by 2 sets to 0.

Casper Ruud, another seed, defeated Roman Safiullin in his debut by 3 sets to 2. He then beat Serbian Hamad Mededovic by 3 sets to 0 and now triumphed over Tommy Paul in a dramatic duel.
