After the US decision, the president states during the launch of Brazilian streaming that the combination “is not Bolsonaro”
The president (PT) said this Saturday (May 30, 2026) that the left needs to wear green and yellow at the World Cup to not let Brazil’s colors be appropriated by political opponents. The statement was made during the launch of Tela Brasil, in Rio de Janeiro.
“We will have to, in this World Cup, wear green and yellow so as not to let Brazil’s colors be taken over by any fascists”said Lula.
After the of classifying PCC and Comando Vermelho as terrorist organizations, Palácio do Planalto decided to further spearhead the sovereignty discourse.
The speech was at the end of the event, when Lula greeted the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, (PSD), who was in the audience dressed in a national team jacket. The president said that Cavalieri needed to put a warning on his clothes that green and yellow “not a Bolsonarist”.
Actor Paulo Betti, who was on stage alongside other artists, displayed a Brazilian flag. Then they took a photo.
The statement came in the context of a broader discourse on Brazilian identity and culture. Throughout the event, Lula said that Brazilians need to know their own country better and resist foreign cultural influence.
“The amount of canned, poor quality content that we are forced to watch every night because there is nothing else for us to see, does not allow Brazilian youth to have access to the fullness of Brazilian culture”he stated.
The president also criticized what he called the tendency to value abroad to the detriment of Brazil: “Why do so many people go to Miami? Nobody goes to the Amazon”. He advocated that Brazilians better understand the country’s riches.
At the beginning of the event, the PT member said that he was talking in the car with the first lady, Janja Lula da Silva, and asked her to teach him how to pronounce the word “streaming”. The president often makes references to his difficulty with English when defending greater appreciation of the Portuguese language in public speeches.
BRAZIL SCREEN
The event was organized as a conversation circle, presented by journalist Cissa Guimarães, who had previously interviewed Lula. Next to the president were First Lady Janja, Minister of Culture Margareth Menezes and Minister of Development, Márcio Elias Rosa.
Lula, alongside Margareth Menezes and Audiovisual Secretary Joelma Gonzaga, gave the platform’s first official play. A promotional video was shown and a QR Code was projected on the screen for immediate access.
Before closing, he defended that Tela Brasil should become State policy. “You know that anyone who comes in can take it off. Removing the thing is very easy. Repairing it is difficult“, he said, in reference to the previous government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), which abolished the Ministry of Culture in 2019.
Former mayor Eduardo Paes was also present at the event, greeted by Lula as “anonymous citizen”.
At the end of the speech, the president made reference to the political situation in the State of Rio de Janeiro, currently led on an interim basis by Ricardo Couto. “A round of applause for this man who will help fix Rio de Janeiro.”these
