São Paulo investigates Ebola case in 37-year-old man

Patient came from the Democratic Republic of Congo; Health Department says the risk of Ebola in the country is low

A investigates this Saturday (May 30, 2026) a suspected case of registered in the capital of São Paulo. The patient, a 37-year-old man who was recently in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is hospitalized at the Emílio Ribas Institute of Infectious Diseases after presenting a fever, one of the symptoms compatible with the disease.

According to the Secretariat, the man returned from Congo around 10 days ago, a period that still falls within the virus’s incubation time. To date, there is no confirmation of Ebola infection.

In addition to investigation for the disease, the patient undergoes tests to rule out other illnesses with similar symptoms, such as malaria. The samples collected will be analyzed in specific tests. THE Laboratory research will be the responsibility of the Adolfo Lutz Institute.

Last week, the Department of Health surveillance and care protocols related to in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The guidelines include notification, isolation, patient care and epidemiological investigation measures.

According to the ministry, the risk of the disease reaching Brazil and South America remains very low due to the low transmission capacity of the virus and the lack of direct flights between the affected region and the South American continent.
