How was the game
First half
Corinthians started the match with many passing errors and difficulties in getting the ball out, offering spaces for Grêmio to exploit counterattacks.
It was in one of these mistakes that the team from Rio Grande do Sul opened the scoring, after just three minutes. Carlos Vinícius finished low and Bidon tried to avoid the goal on the line, but the ball fell to Gabriel Mecwhich he just completed for the networks.
After 20 minutes, the scenario began to change. Corinthians started to make fewer mistakes when exchanging passes, while Grêmio increased the number of mistakes and allowed the opponent to grow in the match.
At 21, Yuri Alberto took a risk from outside the area, and a deflection in defense almost deceived Thiago Beltrame, who managed to make the save in two halves.
The Grêmio goalkeeper appeared again in the 27th minute, when he saved a header from Yuri Alberto, free in the area, in one of the best chances of the first stage.
Corinthians pressure was rewarded in stoppage time. Bidon crossed into the area and Viery tried to clear it, but ended up leaving the ball with Andréwho released a bomb with his right leg, with no chance for Beltrame. Everything the same before the break.
Second half
Grêmio returned for the second half in the same way they finished the first: with little aggression and difficulties to threaten Corinthians.
In the first good arrival of the team from Rio Grande do Sul, in the ninth minute, Gabriel Paulista appeared to prevent what would have been Gabriel Mec’s second goal. Afterwards, Hugo Souza and Gustavo Henrique saved the visitors with two decisive interventions.
When Grêmio began to reorganize itself on the field, Corinthians, who controlled possession of the ball, found the way to turn things around.
At 19 minutes, Yuri Alberto served André free in the area. Face to face with Thiago Beltrame, the striker finished in the corner to put the São Paulo team at an advantage.
The third goal didn’t take long to come. Three minutes later, with another assist from Yuri Alberto, Kaio Caesar received it on the left, pulled it into the middle and hit it with precision to increase the score.
Grêmio’s situation became even more complicated in the 29th minute, when Beltrame was sent off for bringing down Matheus Bidu, who was advancing alone towards the goal.
Coach Luís Castro sacrificed Gabriel Mec for goalkeeper Gabriel Menegon. Shortly afterwards, the substitute made a beautiful save from Rodrigo Garro’s free kick.
Without any new scares, Corinthians managed to manage the score and secured a 3-1 victory away from home.
