The main doubt regarding the call-up was precisely the Palmeiras defender

This Sunday morning (31), otcoach Marcelo Bielsa announced the list of 26 Uruguayan players who will compete in the 2026 World Cup. players who play in Brazilian football were remembered by the commander: Arrascaeta, De La Cruz and Varela, from Flamengo; Piquerez and Martínez, from Palmeiras; Canobbio, from Fluminense; and Rochet, from Internacional.

The main doubt in the squad was precisely the Palmeiras defender, who is still recovering from an injury to his right ankle.. The 27-year-old suffered a torn ligament in the region during a friendly against England at the end of March. He hasn’t taken the field since then and played just 16 games this year.

O giant from the capital of São Paulo released the athlete in the middle of last week to finish treatment with the national delegation. He will be joined by midfielder Emiliano Martínez, who has been a reserve with Abel Ferreira.

Although they are not absolute starters for the Rio team, the Flamengo fans Guillermo Varela and De La Cruz were remembered by the commander. On the other hand, midfielder Arrascaeta is a fundamental player for both the club and the national team and is going to compete in his third World Cup.

Already the Agustín Canobbio goes to his second World Cup and is having a great time wearing the Fluminense shirt. Finally, archer Rochet has faced several physical problems and has not been able to perform at a high level for Internacional. Even so, he is a trusted name for Bielsa and should be Uruguay’s starter.

The list includes another name known to Brazilians: Matías Vinã, who is at River Plate. The full-back had a successful spell at Palmeiras and did not repeat his performance at Flamengo.
