Authorities reported that incidents were recorded in about 15 French cities. In Paris, groups of rioters vandalized shops, set fire to rubbish bins, shared bicycles and vehicles, while one group attempted to storm a police station in the French capital’s 8th arrondissement.

The French interior minister said “the situation is now largely under control”, stressing that the majority of celebrations were peaceful.

According to the update, the planned celebrations for winning the European trophy continue as normal. Around 6,000 police have been deployed in the Eiffel Tower area for the team’s parade, while PSG’s players will later be welcomed to the Elysee Palace by French president Emmanuel Macron.

Earlier, the images of violence that unfolded were reminiscent of last year’s incidents following PSG’s European success, when 201 people were injured and more than 500 arrests were made across France.

The most serious incidents occurred on the Champs-Élysées and around the Parc des Princes, where thousands of fans had gathered to watch the final. Police had to intervene five times overnight to prevent the Paris ring road from being blocked where a motorcyclist was killed.
