Treasury will reinforce advertising supervision of World Cup bets

Secretariat of Prizes and Bets will carry out actions with Procons, Public Ministry and Defenders to monitor platform campaigns

The Ministry of Finance informed that it will intensify monitoring of advertising campaigns by sports betting companies during the World Cup. The measure was announced this Monday (June 8, 2026) by Minister Dario Durigan and the Secretary of Prizes and Bets, Daniela Olímpio.

The ministry will expand coordination with consumer protection and inspection bodies to monitor compliance with the advertising rules set out in the fixed-odd betting legislation.

Last week, representatives from the secretariat met with members of the MPs (public ministries) to discuss the topic. On Tuesday (June 9), there will be a new meeting with bodies from the National Consumer Protection System, including Procons, Public Ministries and Public Defenders.

“We are going to reinforce this inspection and monitoring of advertising, especially in relation to this World Cup period”declared the secretary.

According to the Treasury, the government also sent guidelines to companies authorized to operate in the regulated market to reinforce compliance with the standards established by the and by which regulates the platforms’ marketing and advertising actions.

The government’s concern comes at a time of increased exposure of betting brands in sports broadcasts and promotional campaigns associated with the main world football tournament.

Transparency of processes

In the same interview, the Minister of Finance, Dario Durigan, announced that the ministry will proactively publish the processes already concluded involving betting companies.

According to him, a task force will be created together with the CGU to remove information protected by secrecy and disclose the documents to society.

“All work already completed will be proactively published for broad consumption by people,” stated.

The measure will allow access to analyzes carried out by the government on companies’ authorization requests, including the reasons that led to the approval or rejection of the applications.
