The Minister of Finance, Dario Durigan, reported on Tuesday night, the 9th, that he spoke with the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), about a list of projects whose fiscal impact is considerable. The meeting took place in the early afternoon of Tuesday. Durigan said he showed indicators of the Brazilian economy in light of the situation in the world.
“We have directed the government’s efforts to protect the population in the most diverse ways possible and it is necessary to count on the collaboration of it and President Hugo Motta, President of the Chamber, in relation to the fiscal responsibility of the agendas that are appearing in Congress”, the minister told journalists upon leaving the department’s headquarters.
“I even pointed out the concern with several projects and PECs that were presented by senators and in the Chamber of Deputies from the government base, and which often end up confusing an electoral political moment in which we want to give answers to sectors, but we cannot lose sight of fiscal responsibility with the country, with the economy as a whole”, he continued.
Among the projects highlighted are the renegotiation of rural debts, those that seek to establish national salary floors for various professions and the proposal that expands the tax immunity of religious entities. “We cannot confuse a moment when we want, in an often legitimate way, to provide answers to the sectors, to the respective bases, but we cannot put the country’s economy at risk because of these issues”.
Afterwards, the minister said he trusted the leadership of the President of the Senate and his understanding of the sensitive moment in the world. “If we don’t also take care of Congress’ agenda, we could have a very bad impact on the economy and, by accident, hit these sectors that often ask for one benefit or another in the Senate and in Congress as a whole”, he continued.
Finally, the head of the Treasury thanked Alcolumbre for the agenda, classifying the dialogue as “long and very constructive”, and considered that the senator has been sensitive to the economic team’s agenda and fiscal responsibility.
