LEGO has announced what will be its largest set ever, at least in terms of number of pieces. It is a replica of the tallest church in the world: the Sagrada Familia, in Barcelona.
The group will sign the 100 years of the death of Antoni Gaudithe Catalan architect who designed the church, who died in 1926, aged 73, after being run over by a tram.
The new construction recreates in detail the interior and exterior of the Sagrada Familia, which it became in October, following the different phases of its construction.
“Our goal was to honor Gaudí’s vision, capturing the rhythm of the basilica’s construction, its complexity and ambition, and translating this into an experience of immersive construction“, said the LEGO designer, Year of Žgalin Kobe.
Builders will be tasked with assembling 12,060 piecesstacking them to a height of 62 centimeters to recreate a miniature model of the tallest church in the world. The price will be 749,99 euros and, although it is the largest set ever, the most expensive continues to belong to Death Star of 999,99 euros.
According to , it is now possible to place pre-orders, but the official launch is scheduled for November 1.
The Sagrada Familia began to be built in 1882 and was designed by Gaudí with 18 towers representing different biblical figures: the 12 apostles, the four evangelists, the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ.
144 years later, the structure remains incomplete, although a major milestone was reached this year with the completion of the central tower of Jesus Christ, which, with 127,5 metrosis the tallest of the building’s 18 towers.
When the architect died in 1926, only about 10% a 15% of the building was completed. For decades, the basilica was considered virtually impossible to complete due to its architectural complexities and the loss of Gaudí’s plans during the construction. Spanish Civil Warbetween 1936 and 1939.
However, there is no concrete date for completion of the remaining works, although some estimates suggest it will be completed in the mid-2030s.
