Chega closes agreement with PSD on PSU. White smoke-free labor reform

According to André Ventura, the PSD accepted 6 of Chega’s 7 demands for the creation of the PSU; The leader of Chega warns, however, that the party will only make the diploma viable if a formula is found to exclude immigrants who have never paid in Portugal from the benefit.

The president of Chega, Andre Venturaannounced an understanding with the PSD so that the Government’s legislative authorization on the creation of Single Social Benefit (PSU) download to specialty no vote in generalbut maintains deep differences with the executive regarding labor reform.

The two matters were on the table at a meeting held this Thursday between Luis Montenegro and the president of Chega, at the prime minister’s official residence, in São Bento. The head of Government’s office only confirmed that it was a “work meeting”.

After the meeting, Ventura announced that the PSD would have accepted 6 of the 7 requirements presented by Chega about the PSU, a measure that intends to bring together in a single installment 13 currently existing supports within the scope of the solidarity subsystem.

The only proposal that did not receive approval from the Social Democratssays André Ventura, is linked to Chega de’s intention stop immigrants who have never paid in Portugal to receive this social benefit.

Chega’s leader insisted that the party does not give up the principle that “those who come from outside, without ever having contributed to Portugall, cannot receive subsidies in Portugal”, although he admitted the need to find a solution compatible with the Constitution and community rules.

After the Council of Ministers this Thursday, and before the meeting between Montenegro and Ventura, the Minister of the Presidency, Antônio Leitão Amarohad admitted that the Government could make “approximations” to make the diploma viable, without directly referring to Chega.

The legislative authorization will be debated this Friday, in plenary, in the Assembly of the Republic, and must be reduced to the specialty without a general vote, if it is confirm understanding announced by Ventura.

As regards the labor reform, the meeting did not produce progress. André Ventura stated that “there was no possibility of reaching an understanding” with the Government and warned that, if the proposal remains as it is, Chega will vote against.

There are themes that continue to deeply divide“, said the party leader, pointing out as divisive issues the lowering of the retirement age and the replacement of vacation days. Ventura added that it was agreed with the prime minister that Chega will once again systematize its proposals and present them to the Government.

Asked about the margin for tradingthe president of Chega responded that “depends on the Government”.

The proposal to review labor laws must be debated in the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies on the 18th and voted on in general on the following day, June 19th.
