The Brazilian team faces Morocco this Saturday (13) in its debut of the 2026 World Cup. Coach Carlo Ancelotti surprised with Igor Thiago in attack and confirmed shortly before the game, which starts at 7pm, the lineup of the 11 players who will start in the match.
Brazil’s lineup for the first game in the World Cup will be:
- Goalkeeper: Alisson
- Defenders: Roger Ibañez, Marquinhos, Gabriel Magalhães and Douglas Santos
- Midfielders: Casemiro, Bruno Guimarães and Lucas Paquetá
- Attackers: Raphinha, Igor Thiago and Vinícius Júnior
In its 23rd participation in the tournament, the Seleção mixes veterans and newcomers in its squad, as well as having its command, for the first time in history, – competing in a World Cup – a foreign coach: the Italian Carlo Ancelotti.
Brazil defends a respectable unbeaten record in debuts. The last defeat in a first World Cup game was in 1934in Italy, to Spain, 3-1, at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium, in Genoa. Since then, there have been 17 wins and three draws. At the last World Cup, in Qatar, the green and yellow team beat Serbia 2-0 at the Lusail Stadium, with two goals from striker Richarlison.
Morocco, however, is one of the most complicated opponents Brazil has ever faced in the first round. The Moroccan team, semi-finalist in the World Cup in Qatar, is seventh in the International Football Federation (Fifa) ranking, just one position behind the Brazilian team itself.
