KEIKO’S PRONUNCIATION

During a speech in front of his residence, in the district of San Borja, Fujimori rejected the request for a full recount of the votes defended by Sánchez. According to her, Peruvian electoral legislation does not determine this procedure.

“Democracy must work based on established rules, not on agreements between candidates”he declared.

The candidate stated that the review of electoral records follows criteria defined by legislation and is the exclusive responsibility of the bodies responsible for the process. According to her, only documents with irregularities can be subjected to new analysis by the electoral authorities.

Despite criticism of his rival’s proposal, Fujimori said he was open to dialogue with Sánchez and other former candidates after the evaluation of the contested ballots was completed.
