The Iranian football team delegation arrived this Sunday (June 15, 2026) in Los Angeles, in the United States, to face the New Zealand team in the opening match of the World Cup on Monday (June 15). The team maintains a preparation base in Tijuana, Mexico, from where it left for North American territory. The information is from the news agency .
The Airbus A320 carrying the delegation landed on runway 25L at Los Angeles International Airport at 5:11 pm (Brasília time). The airport is 15 minutes from Los Angeles Stadium, the venue for the Iranian team’s debut match in the tournament.
The Iranian national team moved its preparation base at the end of May: it left a sports complex in Arizona and settled in Mexico. The change was due to tensions arising from joint attacks carried out by the United States and Israel against Iranian territory.
The players were taken to the team hotel after disembarking. The place already had a strong police presence. Security was intensified due to the geopolitical context surrounding Iran during the World Cup.
Coach Amir Ghalenoei and striker Mehdi Taremi will participate in a press conference at SoFi Stadium. The activity is scheduled for 7:45 pm this Sunday (June 14), the day before the confrontation.
WORLD CUP
The World Cup is a private, profit-making sporting event. It is carried out every 4 years by . Teams qualify through knockouts. The technical committee and squad of each team competing in the competition are chosen by private entities.
In the case of Brazil, it is up to defining who the coach is and which players are “called up” (in reality, everyone is invited and whoever is interested goes; as the commercial gain from marketing is great, the athletes respond to the “call up”).
The Brazilian government has no influence on choosing the team that participates in the tournament. In other words, it is not the country that is represented in the World Cup, but a football team chosen by a private entity.
