The Iranian vice-foreign minister said that the end of the war and military operations on several borders, including Lebanon, will be announced this Sunday (14).
The statement comes after Pakistani Prime Minister Shebaz Shariff announced that an agreement between the United States and Iran had been reached and will be signed on June 19 in Switzerland.
Soon after, American President Donald Trump published on his social network, Truth Social, that the agreement was complete and that he was authorizing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, without charging a toll, and the removal of the United States naval blockade of the sea route.
Iranian TV also spoke out saying that Iran had forced the United States to accept the interim peace agreement and that it was decided that maritime traffic in the gulf will be regulated by Iran in coordination with Oman.
According to the Iranian Vice Foreign Minister, Iran’s military power and threats helped finalize the text of the agreement.
The diplomat also said that the text of the memorandum of understanding will be published after it is officially signed, but made it clear that concluding the agreement does not mean “trusting the enemy.” He added that Iran only agreed to the text after all final demands were incorporated into it.
The vice-chancellor stated that negotiations for a final agreement will take place within a period of 60 days after signing and that mediators will also be present at this stage. However, he warned that Iran will only enter the negotiations after Iranian assets are unfrozen.
Iran warned that it will take its own measures if it witnesses violations by the other party to the agreement and made it clear that the agreed commitments will only take effect from Friday, June 19.
