A Spain debut at the 2026 World Cup went far from pleasing the fans. After the goalless draw against Cape Verde, this Monday (15), fans criticized the performance of the team considered one of the favorites for the title.
Much of the complaints were directed at coach Luis de la Fuente, who left stars Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams on the bench.
“Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams should not start on the bench even if they cannot walk”, wrote one fan. Another questioned the coaching staff’s choices: “Why did we invent it? Why when a World Cup arrives do we start placing players outside of their natural positions?”
There were also criticisms during the match. “This is absolutely all the coach’s fault,” commented a Spaniard. Another highlighted the isolated performance of midfielder Pedri: “Pedri is fighting alone. He creates plays, passes, but there is no one!”

Some fans even questioned Spain’s favoritism in winning the World Cup. “And these dead people are the favorites? They’re horrible. With this kind of football, they won’t even reach the round of 16”posted a user.
Considered one of the main candidates for the title, Spain found it difficult to break through Cape Verde’s strong pressing during the 90 minutes. The African team, which achieved a historic result in its debut in the tournament.
With 0-0, Spain and Cape Verde have one point in Group H. Saudi Arabia and Uruguay, the other members of the group, will face each other this Monday.
