Trump guarantees that Hormuz will be ‘completely open’ this Friday

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, guaranteed that the Strait of Hormuz will be ‘completely open’ next Friday (19), when the signing of the peace agreement between the USA and Iran is scheduled to end the war. The Republican added that he does not “believe” “a lot of help” is needed to keep this crucial waterway open. “Ships, some loaded with oil, are starting to leave the Strait of Hormuz,” he said earlier on his platform, Truth Social.

According to the United States and Pakistan, mediator of the conflict, the agreement should be signed next Friday in Switzerland.

The closure of Hormuz had a major impact on the world economy, generating inflation in many countries and problems in supplying fertilizers necessary for food production, among others. Iran has blocked this strategic passage since the start of the war, triggered by an attack by the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic on February 28.

This Monday (15), the peace agreement between the two countries was virtually signed. The American presidentDonald Trump, his deputy, JD Vance, and the president of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran negotiator, an agreement to end the war in the Middle Eastreported a senior American government official.

News of the agreement was received with relief from the international community, after months of violence and economic chaos. After the announcement, crude oil prices plummeted and both Brent and WTI were trading at around $80 a barrel.

Despite Trump’s position on Hormuz, Iran said it will charge fees to ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, under the agreement with the United States. “We have always stated that we do not seek to collect traffic tolls, but fees will be charged for navigation services, environmental protection, maritime insurance and other necessary services,” said Iranian diplomacy spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei at a press conference.
