USA: A B52 bomber crashed on takeoff from a base in California

A plane crash occurred Monday night at an air base in California. According to what has become known, a B52 bomber crashed shortly after takeoff.

Rescue crews immediately rushed to the scene to put out the fire. Usually there are five people on this particular aircraft. Specifically, two pilots, a radar navigator, a navigator and an electronic warfare officer.

The aircraft was one of 76 B-52s remaining in the Air Force fleet. The fleet is expected to remain in service for decades as the Air Force moves forward with extensive modernization upgrades.

The nuclear-capable bomber first entered service in the 1950s and remains a centerpiece of the US strategic bomber force.
