“That idea has been proposed and is still under consideration,” Baghaei said, referring to the possibility that the deal would be signed by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Massoud Pezhezkian, instead of US Vice President Jay D. What Iran says will happen to the Straits of Hormuz

At the same time, Baghaei referred to the provisions of the agreement on the Straits of Hormuz, asserting that Tehran and Oman will jointly undertake the planning of the future management framework of the strategically important sea route.

“Iran and Oman will develop a management mechanism for the Straits of Hormuz and cooperate and consult with other regional countries where necessary,” he said, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

The representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry also underlined that the gradual restoration of navigation in the region has been agreed, with the aim of returning commercial traffic to pre-war levels within a specific time frame. “Regarding the Straits of Hormuz, it has been agreed that maritime traffic will return to normal within a certain period of time,” he said.

At the same time, he hastened to clarify that the responsibility for the implementation of the relevant measures will remain solely on the Iranian side, rejecting the possibility of the involvement of third powers. “This is our responsibility and only we will implement it. There will be no need for participation or intervention from other parties”, he pointed out.

Baghaei’s statements come shortly after the publication of the 14-point US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding, which provides for the restoration of commercial navigation in the Straits of Hormuz, the initiation of the process of lifting the US naval blockade, as well as the formation of a new management framework for the maritime route in cooperation with Oman and the other states of the region.
