The US-Iran deal takes effect immediately. The Strait of Hormuz is opening again

According to the Pakistani Prime Minister, the agreement between the US and Iran is effective immediately. The first step is to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and lift the naval blockade.

The agreement between the US and Iran will take “immediate effect” after both sides sign it, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Thursday. His remarks came after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran was confirmed by both parties involved. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AP agency.

The Pakistani prime minister further said that the leaders of both the United States and Iran – Presidents Donald Trump and Massoud Pezeshkiyan – signed the agreement and approved Sharif as a mediator.

Opening of the Strait of Hormuz

In a post on social media, X Sharif wrote that the agreement “goes into effect with immediate effect and as a first step, the Islamic Republic of Iran will immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the United States of America will immediately lift the naval blockade.”

Sharif specified that Pakistan and the other intermediary country, Qatar, will host an official signing ceremony in Switzerland on Friday. His post came shortly after Trump announced that he personally signed the deal during a dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles.

Place of signing the agreement

The signing of the agreement was immediately confirmed by Iran through the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmáíl Bakájí.

According to the original plan, the official signing of the agreement should take place in the Swiss mountain resort of Bürgenstock. The resort is located near the city of Lucerne in central Switzerland and is difficult to access, making it easy to secure, according to AFP. The site was “proposed by Pakistani and Qatari mediators, as well as the US and Iran,” according to the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
