The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) was asked this Friday (19) whether Jaques Wagner (PT-BA) remains as leader of the government in the Federal Senate after the PF (Federal Police) operation that investigated his connection with the Master case the day before. The representative nodded with a “jewel” when asked the question, but did not respond.
The episode occurred during Lula’s schedule in Belo Horizonte (MG) to announce investments in Hospital Luxemburgo. The question was asked to the president as he approached the audience and greeted the activists present.
A wing of the Planalto Palace assesses that the PF (Federal Police) operation against Jaques Wagner damages the government’s image and defends it. But the assessment prevails that Lula should only make a decision after a personal conversation with the senator.
Lula had a first telephone conversation with Jaques Wagner on Thursday, but prefers to wait to discuss the matter, according to aides. The president has a schedule full of commitments in the Southeast and the meeting should be held next week.
The president’s interlocutors indicate that Planalto was prepared to refute allegations about Bahian PT’s connections with the Banco Master case, but was surprised by the operation against the senator.
Jaques Wagner and his family were search and seizure targets this Thursday. The senator is suspected of having received undue advantages from Banco Master. In note, that of this or any other financial institution.
