Singer Bonnie Tyler has woken up from an artificially induced coma in which doctors put her during treatment in a Portuguese hospital. However, according to her team, the seventy-five-year-old star remains in serious health.
“Bonnie is no longer in a coma, but her condition is still serious. Although her health is improving, her recovery is slow,” the singer’s representatives told The Sun newspaper.
Tyler remains hospitalized in the intensive care unit in the southern Portuguese city of Faro. According to her team, doctors expect a full recovery, but they still consider her seriously ill.
In May, management announced that the singer underwent acute bowel surgery and treatment for a perforated bowel. “As of this morning, Bonnie remains in serious but stable condition at Fara Hospital. Her doctors are still confident she will make a full recovery,” the singer’s spokesperson said more than a month ago.
Longtime friend Liberto Mealha added at the time that her loved ones hoped for an improvement. “I haven’t been able to see her because she’s in intensive care, but we’re praying for better news. The doctors are optimistic about the situation, but it’s not very good so far.” stated.
According to available reports, a cardiac arrest occurred after the operation. “Bonnie has been placed in an induced coma by doctors to support her recovery. We know you all wish her well and ask for your privacy during this difficult time,” a spokesperson said.
