The Christian Democracy (DC) party plans to cast actor Humberto Martins, known for the soap operas he starred in Globoand Cristiane Brasil, daughter of former deputy Roberto Jefferson, as candidates for the Chamber of Deputies in the October elections. The information was confirmed by the party president, João Caldas, to not Sunday (Jun 29, 2026).
Caldas met with the 2 over the weekend to convince them. The leader assesses that the candidacies can expand the party’s bench in the federal Legislature.
“Roberto Jefferson’s daughter, who is very loved in Rio, and Humberto, a global actor, have many chances, including helping us make 1 or 2 more deputies“, Caldas said to Sheet.
The party is trying to convince Xuxa Meneghel’s former businesswoman, Marlene Mattos, to run for federal deputy for Rio de Janeiro. She is already affiliated with DC and, according to Caldas, “is analyzing” per proposal.
In May this year, the former minister of the Federal Supreme Court, Joaquim Barbosa, joined the party to in the 2026 elections, in a case that opened up internal feuds in the party.
ROBERTO JEFFERSON
Cristiane Brasil’s father was arrested in October 2022 after shooting at federal police officers who were serving court warrants at his home. Roberto Jefferson’s conviction was determined in 2024.
The former deputy received the sentence for the crimes of slander, homophobia, incitement to commit crimes and qualified damage. The Attorney General’s Office maintained that he encouraged the invasion of the Senate, defended the explosion of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) building and carried out attacks on authorities.
Currently, Jefferson in Comendador Levy Gasparian (RJ). He is monitored by an electronic ankle bracelet and is prohibited from using social media.
