The goal was to go see England play against Ghana, but the family hasn’t heard anything since June 21st
Michael Hewitt is from England to go see his team play against Ghana in the World Cup, but no one has seen him for over a week.
The last time family and friends of this 65-year-old Brit were in contact with him was on June 21st, when they confirmed that the man was in Barcelona to catch a flight to Boston, where the two teams played the second round of Group L on June 23rd.
The problem is that the fellow Leeds United fan hasn’t said anything since, with the family lamenting how little help they are receiving to find out more information.
What the family knows is so little that it is not even certain that Michael Hewitt actually went to the United States.
There is “a lot we don’t know”, brother Gary admitted to , to whom he confirmed his concern about his brother’s situation.
Michael Hewitt decided almost at the last minute that he wanted to go see the game in Boston, having not shared his travel or accommodation plans with anyone.
“He always meets up with friends, friends from Leeds, but also England fans,” said Gary Hewitt.
And you can’t even put a low-experience scenario on the table. Michael Hewitt is used to traveling to watch football games abroad, many of them for the national team.
When you do this, you tend to keep in touch with family and friends, whether through text messages or sharing on Facebook. But this time none of that is happening.
Gary Hewitt has already reported the missing person to West Yorkshire Police, who have already dealt with the case and contacted Interpol. Furthermore, the Spanish police are also trying to understand what happened.
For now, what is known is that Michael Hewitt was actually in Barcelona. Although he didn’t tell his family, there is video surveillance footage and even a photo on Facebook that confirm this.
