The Ukrainian patriot systems are finding more difficulties in intercepting the advanced Russian Iskander-M missiles, since they can activate radar traps and change their trajectory.
This has further hindered its demolition, said Yuriy Ignat, head of communications of the Air Forces Command of the Ukraine Armed Forces, as reported.
“The Iskander-M missiles, which attack following a ballistic trajectory, have improved and modernized. It is about shooting radar traps, which each missile can shoot during the approach to the objective. Therefore, the patriot systems, which must intercept the goal, may not work with the desired effectiveness,” said Ignat.
The head of Communications also added that Russian invaders have improved ballistic missiles in such a way that they can change their flight career.
“A ballistic missile flies along an almost ballistic trajectory, as if they are falling, and maneuver. Then, the patriot system is more difficult to predict the point of fall,” Ignat explained.
The military also added that the modernization carried out by the Russians complicates the air defense work, but does not make it impossible. “This complicates, but does not make it impossible, the air defense work. I think our partners are working to find a solution that improves the patriot system,” he said.
