London (Reuters)-The Israeli government plan for a large-scale Gaza military socket will cause more deaths and suffering and needs to be interrupted immediately, the United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, said on Friday.
The plan is contrary to the decision of the International Court of Justice that Israel must end its occupation as soon as possible, the holding of the agreed solution of two states and the Palestinian law to self -determination, Turk said in a statement.
Israel’s security office approved a plan early Friday to take control of the city of Gaza, while the country expands its military operations, despite the intensification of internal and external criticism of the devastating war of almost two years.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had said on Thursday that Israel intended to assume military control of the entire Gaza Strip.
“Based on all evidence so far, this new climb will result in more mass forced displacements, more deaths, more unbearable suffering, meaningless destruction and crimes of atrocity,” Turk said.

“Instead of intensifying this war, the Israeli government should put all their efforts to save the lives of Gaza’s civilians, allowing the total and unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid. Hostages must be immediately and unconditionally released by Palestinian armed groups.”
